Southwick, Massachusetts.
A farming town. A wood shop.
Southwick Altar Works is one maker working one shop in the hills of Western Massachusetts, where New England still smells like cut hay and sawdust. The work is designed on my own software, cut to order, and finished the slow way.
Every design begins as a full 3-D build in software called BuildersJig, highly customized woodworking software that I use to show my clients blueprints and photo-realistic renderings of their ideas before I start cutting material. This way, every aspect of the commission, down to the last joint, is proven, seen, and approved by the client before the saw ever touches a piece of raw walnut. Then that paper blueprint hangs on a wall while the piece is made. Those prints will ship to you with the finished work, signed by the fellow who made it.
