Southwick, Massachusetts

Furniture your
great-grandchildren
will treasure.

Solid walnut. Aromatic cedar. Crafter by hand and meant to outlast generations. Every piece leaves a small shop in the hills of Western Massachusetts, built one at a time, for one family at a time. Delivery is always free.

The Flagship

The Walnut & Cedar Blanket Chest

Raised-panel black walnut outside. A full aromatic red cedar interior, the smell your grandmother's hope chest had, the one that keeps wool safe and memories sharper. Ogee bracket feet. Brass hardware. A lid that closes softly enough for a nursery.

This is not furniture in the way a store uses the word. This is a place where a wedding dress waits for a daughter... where an infant's favorite blanket waits quietly to one day cuddle the adult that child grew to become... where the love letters go.

The Bespoke Difference

Provenance... your heirloom, filmed in the making.

Commission any piece and I film its build... from the smallest cross to a full bedroom suite... from rough lumber to the final coat of oil and wax. Your family doesn't just get the gift. They get the story behind its creation: the hands that formed it, and the little shop it came to life in.

No factory can offer you that. One man in Southwick will.

The Bench

Southwick, Massachusetts.
A farming town. A wood shop.

Southwick Altar Works is one maker working one shop in the hills of Western Massachusetts, where New England still smells like cut hay and sawdust. The work is designed on my own software, cut to order, and finished the slow way.

Every design begins as a full 3-D build in software called BuildersJig, highly customized woodworking software that I use to show my clients blueprints and photo-realistic renderings of their ideas before I start cutting material. This way, every aspect of the commission, down to the last joint, is proven, seen, and approved by the client before the saw ever touches a piece of raw walnut. Then that paper blueprint hangs on a wall while the piece is made. Those prints will ship to you with the finished work, signed by the fellow who made it.

Commissions

Begin a commission.

Tell me what you're imagining, a chest, a dresser, a curio cabinet, or just a simple cross that doesn't exist yet. I'll answer within a day with honest talk about wood, timeline, and price. When you're ready, pay your way: a commission priced at $2,400 complete requires a $600 deposit here to reserve the build slot, or a private Etsy listing made just for you, one payment at the Etsy price with full Etsy buyer protection. Whichever leaves you comfortable.
